St Jean D'Angely

Only 20 minutes drive away is St Jean d’Angèly, perfect for discovering the local heritage and magnificent architecture of the area.  Built on the banks of the Boutonne River, this large market town boasts a beautiful lake and leisure area for water sports and lakeside activities.

There are splendid markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays (we appreciate many guests depart on a Saturday, but if you can visit the Saturday market, it is well worth it).   The fresh fish and cheeses within the market in particular are always good, and there is plenty of fruit and veg too.  After shopping, have a bite of lunch - there are several good restaurants in the vicinity of the market but we recommend:

Le Cabanon - very nicely prepared meals; the menu is limited, but whatever chef has laid on today will be good!

Le Scorlion - if you want a treat, absolutely the best restaurant in St Jean.  Tucked away by the Abbeye.

La Creperie de l'Abbaye - located on the opposite side of the market hall to Bar le Tapas, this venue provides good crepes; another good lunchtime choice.

Nearby is the impressive swimming centre – Atlantys – with water slides, diving pool, jacuzzis, gym, sauna and sun terraces.

In and around the town are all amenities including major supermarkets and a good selection of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes.
